A Spot By the Sea

Ah, a cabana by the sea . . . where I always want to be. We don't need much to enjoy the beach . . . fresh towels . . . we love plush white cotton towels after a day at the beach. The perfect water bottle has the perfect beach sentiment B.E.A.C.H. (best experience anyone can have). The hand-made bag collection from She Shells offers a unique twist on a "beach bag". Coral on the Walls

What an interesting and clever way to display your love for the sea. Small white shelves make a statement around this bed and are the perfect spot to hold pieces of coral, or even your favorite seashell collections. The texture of the coral and shelving gives this space added texture on a neutral background. Throw in your favorite accent color and your room is complete. Signature Pink and Green in Decorating

Love pink and green at the beach! Another great decorating idea from Coastal Living magazine.

Green, the color of peace, is tranquil and refreshing. Vibrant pink can have the same high energy as red but not as bold and can stimulate energy. Trina Turk has some fabulous embroidered pillow choices to bring this color palette into your seaside space.

These colors are reminiscent of the colorful designs of Lilly Pulitzer's iconic clothing collection. As history has it, Lilly opened a juice stand in Palm Beach with produce from the groves her husband's family owned. She found that the juice stained her clothing and decided to come up with a color pattern that would hide the stains. She asked her dressmaker to design a sleeveless shift dress made of bright colored cotton. Hence, her signature Classic Shift Dress was born. She ended up selling these dresses at her juice stand and gave up the juice stand to pursue her clothing line. These two colors together just bring her designs to mind and are still popular after all these years.

Reclaimed Headboard

We love to see ideas to reuse things. This perfect headboard is made from reclaimed doors and is a simple decorating idea . . . that is once you find the right doors! The clean white linens add a soft touch against the natural wood doors. The crystal chandelier brings in an eclectic element. A seashell chandelier would also add a surprising component into this wonderful coastal bedroom highlighted in "Home Decor News". Add a simple accent pillow or two and your room is complete!

Words of Wisdom "SEAS THE DAY"

There is nothing like the feel of driftwood polished by the waves. Who knows how far each piece has traveled to arrive on your beach. Just drifting on the open waters. Weather plays a tremendous role in directing driftwood pieces to shore. When I find a piece on my favorite beach, I am so excited as they do not turn up too often.

These brand new driftwood signs by talented artist Gina Fedderson of Isola Bella are engraved upon washed ashore driftwood with the gentle reminder to SEAS THE DAY. As you can imagine, as each piece of driftwood is unique, each sign is its own. The smaller version measures between 4" - 7" and comes with a removable jute string for hanging. Perfect size for your desk, your boat or hanging from a kitchen cabinet knob. Rest one near your shell collection. The larger size will measure at least 9" and can sit on any surface. Install simple hanging hardware on the back for a wall display.

A reminder to all of us that we should SEAS THE DAY . . . everyday!

Mango Anyone???

Love this new shade of mango and melon . . . a pop of orange toned down to a softer, subtler shade to brighten up your room. This is a great time to stop and think where you may be able to add a touch of this color in your space, especially after this very long winter many of us have been experiencing. Did you ever notice that many of the names given to shades of orange are associated with food . . . like mango and melon for example! These colors are so warm and embracing, not to mention the fact that they can produce a feeling of a sweet scent. Think a bowl of fresh fruit on a sunny day.

This new collection of beautiful accent pillows are embroidered intricately onto 100% linen fabric in such lovely shades of mango and melon. We always love to mix and match patterns and sizes. Trina Turk has put her signature design on the Melon Greek Key Embroidered Pillow done in her shade of melon on a great 14" x 26" oblong shape. D.L. Rhein once again has created designs that capture a mango tone in full embroidery on her 100% linen 16" square accent pillows. All good choices!

Fashion Week in NYC!!

A coincidence surely . . . I just finished reading "The Gospel According to Coco Chanel" and Fashion week begins in NY today! This show started in 1943 to showcase American designers and was held in different hotels and lofts throughout the city. In 1994 it was moved to beautiful Bryant Park and most recently to the renovated Lincoln Center. NY Fashion Week opens up the fall season showings. Other venues include London, Paris and Milan. These shows allow designers to showcase their latest designs. Buyers can see the latest trends and the industry can find out what is "in" and "out" for the season. Unfortunately, access is by invite only and as you can imagine, the "in crowd" is in attendance. Luckily, the internet has brought us closer and there are many viewing opportunities right from your computer. The official website for Fashion Week will give you the whole schedule of events. Meanwhile, the NY Times has presented an internet schedule of events you can actually attend online! Find out what you will be seeing in your local department store in the Fall!

Pink is Everywhere!!

It seems pink is everywhere we look these days! The March issue of "House Beautiful" is dedicated to "The Power of Pink". The color of the year is Honeysuckle, selected by Pantone, the world-renowned expert of color and color systems. Pink brings me back to one of my favorite Barbie outfits! When you really examine all of the shades available in pink, well, the choices are varied and plentiful. Who would have ever thought a pink exterior would become the trademark of such glamourous hotels as The Beverly Hills Hotel and the Boca Raton Hotel. How about pink ballet flats? Pink Diamonds? Cherry Blossoms! Pink skies!

In all the shades that are available, pink is not just for a little girl's room anymore! Trina Turk has some fabulous pink accent pillows in vibrant tones. Our pale pink linen three button throw pillow may be just the right touch of subtle pink. Need a pink accent piece? Try our Stained Glass Shell. And pink for the beach!
