Come Sail Away!

An interesting choice in room decor for the little sailor in your home!  This collection of original and classically designed boat beds bring the open sea to your land space.  A few nautical anchor coastal decor throw pillows in your favorite nautical shades add more charm.

This beautifully-designed room by Diamond Baratta Design offers a tranquil coastal palette.  The realistically crafted boat anchors the space!  We think some of the hand-printed design pillows of Isola Bella would be fun.

Pottery Barn has created this room with a definite sailing theme from the boat bed to the linens and hanging sailboats.

Some simple bedding highlighted with a few of our Isola Bella pillows!

Look Up!

Where is it written that a ceiling must be a simple shade of flat white paint?  Well, sometimes that may be just what your room needs.  But not always.  We found some beautiful images that show just what you can do to your ceiling to make it another decorating surface rather than a holder for your chandelier.

This fabulous ceiling compliments of Coastal Living Magazine is constructed of wood to resemble the hull of a ship.

We might even add Arterior's Jada wire-wrapped chandelier to bring out the natural texture and tone of the wood ceiling.  And for the side table, Arterior's Hammered Nickel Abernathy 31" coastal lamp to give your room just a little shine.  Add our Bodega Distressed Mirror to reflect your space.

Looking for a simpler solution?  This lovely living room from Southern Accents has an off-white painted wood ceiling to bring out the distressed, dark hardwood flooring.

To bring a little more of the seaside in, we could replace the chandelier with a natural shell creation from Arteriors.

And maybe a simple coconut bead pendant chandelier over the dining table . . .

A simple cottage-inspired white painted beadboard ceiling from Cottage Living Magazine leaves the rest of the room to be decorated as you desire.  Keep the bedding white, or splash your favorite color here.  We would add Regina Andrew's distressed driftwood wall sconces and their wicker table lamp.

For a truly unique ceiling, take a cue from this nautically-inspired bedroom from Coastal Living Magazine.  Hang a wood boat or old surfboard from the ceiling rafters!

So, the next time you are looking to make a decorating change, look up and see the possibilities!

Reading Nooks!

So, if I cannot be reading here . . .

It would be fun to curl up with a good book in one of these fabulously-designed nooks!

Love this chocolate brown paired with classic painted white.

What a peaceful place to read . . . or nap!  Cedar shingles and a tranquil palette give this space serenity.

Even a small area under a staircase can be used for a quiet space.  A few comfortable coastal pillows and your favorite book.  Who doesn't love just one rainy day at the beach?

Cabin Fever!

Paneling is back!  Browse through these uniqiue "cabin" interiors featuring lots of paneling, updated with vibrant colors and contemporary furnishings.  Bring yourself back to the summer camp days . . .

A modern magno palette brings this cabin right up-to-date.

When cabin rooms are paired with more updated fabrics and texturing, it can give you that relaxed yet sophisticated cabin feeling without becoming too "campy".

A very contemporary dining chandelier gives this panelled space an understated elegance.

Love a retro cabin?  Nothing like paneling to bring you back to the coziness of a beach bungalow.

Hit the Deck . . . or Patio!

Another summer weekend is upon us and it is time to hit the deck . . . or patio . . . or porch for some outdoor entertaining.

We love the contemporary palette of black, white and red on this classic white column porch.  And the view isn't bad either!  Here are some ideas from By the Sea Decor to pull together this beautiful outdoor space compliments of Coastal Living Magazine.

What does this outdoor space compliments of House to Home UK need?  We think only a wine glass and a serving platter!  Relax, it's the weekend!

My Beach Club

My beach house in LBI is my Beach Club.  Yes, it's private. Membership is limited to friends.  Food is definitely not five-star, but is more than edible.  Cocktails are not served by a white-coated waiter, but they are readily available from our bathing suit attired, sandy footed friends.  There is no dress code at my Beach Club, but some form of clothing is required . . . a bathing suit is the least we expect!  There are no cabanas at my Beach Club, but my chair sure is comfy.
